Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven and lay out the Texas Toast slices on a baking sheet.
  2. Brown the ground beef in a large pan, breaking it up as you go, and add chopped onions. Cook until the onions are soft.
  3. Drain excess fat from the beef mixture.
  4. Mix in ketchup, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, and a little water to thin if necessary.
  5. Let the mixture simmer for 7-8 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Bake the Texas Toast following package directions but remove a bit early, just before it's totally finished.
  2. Once ready, pile the beef mixture onto each piece of toast and top with shredded cheese.
  3. Return the loaded Texas Toast to the oven and bake until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serving
  1. Remove from the oven, let cool for a moment, and enjoy.

Notes

Use foil to cover toast if it gets too crisp before cheese melts. Store leftover filling in an airtight container, and reheat in the oven to avoid sogginess.
