Ingredients

Mushroom Filling
  • 8 oz Fresh mushrooms, sliced White button or baby bella mushrooms work well.
  • 2 tbsp Butter Real butter for the best flavor.
  • 1/4 tsp Salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1/4 tsp Pepper Freshly cracked preferred.
  • 1 pinch Onion powder Optional, for added flavor.
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Optional, for added depth of flavor.
Sandwich Assembly
  • 4 slices Bread (sourdough or artisan white) Sturdy bread for best results.
  • 4 oz Swiss cheese, sliced Generous layers for best melt.

Method

Preparing the Mushroom Filling
  1. Clean and slice the fresh mushrooms.
  2. Heat a pan over medium heat, add butter, and sauté the sliced mushrooms.
  3. Season with salt, pepper, and optionally onion powder or Worcestershire sauce. Cook until golden.
  4. Remove the mushrooms from the pan once crispy on the edges.
Assembling the Sandwich
  1. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Place a slice of bread butter-side down in the pan, layer with Swiss cheese, add cooked mushrooms, and top with another slice of cheese and then bread, butter-side up.
  3. Cook over medium-low heat, pressing gently to crisp the bread without oozing the cheese.
  4. Flip when golden brown and cook the other side until deep golden.
Serving
  1. Let the sandwich rest for a minute, then cut and enjoy.

Notes

Pair it with tomato soup or a simple green salad for a complete meal. Consider adding caramelized onions or bacon for extra flavor.
