Preparing the Mushroom Filling
- Clean and slice the fresh mushrooms.
- Heat a pan over medium heat, add butter, and sauté the sliced mushrooms.
- Season with salt, pepper, and optionally onion powder or Worcestershire sauce. Cook until golden.
- Remove the mushrooms from the pan once crispy on the edges.
Assembling the Sandwich
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Place a slice of bread butter-side down in the pan, layer with Swiss cheese, add cooked mushrooms, and top with another slice of cheese and then bread, butter-side up.
- Cook over medium-low heat, pressing gently to crisp the bread without oozing the cheese.
- Flip when golden brown and cook the other side until deep golden.
Serving
- Let the sandwich rest for a minute, then cut and enjoy.
Notes
Pair it with tomato soup or a simple green salad for a complete meal. Consider adding caramelized onions or bacon for extra flavor.
