Ingredients
  

For the Meat Mixture
  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb Either beef or lamb can be used.
  • 1 cup onion, chopped Any type of onion works.
  • 1 cup frozen peas Add more or less depending on your taste.
  • 1 cup frozen carrots You can also add corn.
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Enhances the flavor of the meat mix.
  • 1 tbsp salt Adjust to your taste.
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste Optional for a richer flavor.
For the Mashed Potatoes
  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and chopped Russet or Yukon Gold work well.
  • 4 tbsp butter For creaminess.
  • 1/2 cup milk Adjust for desired consistency.
  • 1 tsp salt For flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Peel and boil the potatoes until tender. Mash with butter, milk, and salt until creamy and fluffy.
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground meat with chopped onion until cooked through.
  3. Add frozen peas, carrots, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and tomato paste to the meat mixture. Stir well and let it simmer for a few minutes.
Assembly and Baking
  1. Transfer the meat mixture to a casserole dish and spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top.
  2. Use a fork to create peaks in the mashed potatoes.
  3. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly, about 20-25 minutes.

Notes

Shepherd's Pie can be made ahead of time and frozen. Just ensure to let it come to room temperature before baking for even cooking.
