Ingredients
  

Beef and Broccoli Ingredients
  • 2 pounds flank steak or sirloin, sliced thin Buy it pre-sliced if you’re feeling lazy
  • 1 cup beef broth The stuff from a carton is fine
  • 0.5 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar A little heaping for more flavor
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced Jarred garlic can be used
  • 4 cups fresh broccoli florets Bagged kind from the produce section saves time
  • 3 tablespoons corn starch
  • 3 tablespoons water For thickening
  • 1 cup white rice Optional but recommended

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Place the beef in the crock pot.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, sesame oil, and minced garlic.
  3. Pour the mixture over the beef and give it a light stir.
  4. Cover and set the slow cooker to LOW for 5 hours.
Cooking
  1. About 30 minutes before serving, add the fresh broccoli.
  2. Mix corn starch with water and add to the crock pot for thickening.
  3. Let it finish cooking until broccoli is crisp, not mushy.
Serving
  1. Serve over white rice.
  2. Enjoy the meal with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

For extra sauce, double the sauce ingredients. Ensure broccoli is added 30 minutes prior to prevent it from becoming mushy. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
