Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour (or gluten-free blend) Feel free to use a gluten-free blend for a gluten-free version.
  • 1 tbsp Baking powder For lift.
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Don't skip this!
  • 1/2 cup Butter Use real butter for best flavor.
  • 2 large Eggs For structure.
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar Adds caramel sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp Ground cinnamon Add more if desired.
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar For the glaze.
  • 2-4 tbsp Milk To loosen the glaze.
Optional Mix-ins
  • 1/2 cup Chopped nuts For added crunch.
  • 1/2 cup Dried fruit Raisins or chopped dates are great.
  • 1 tbsp Nutella For swirling before baking.
  • 1/2 cup Mini chocolate chips Optional topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla to the creamed mixture and mix well.
Baking
  1. Stir the dry mix into the wet mixture until just combined; do not overwork.
  2. Spread half of the batter in a greased 8x8-inch baking pan.
  3. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar evenly over the batter.
  4. Dollop the remaining batter on top and swirl lightly with a knife.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Glazing
  1. Once cool, drizzle powdered sugar glaze over the top.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. For longer storage, freeze individually wrapped bars.
