Ingredients
  

Base Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter The real stuff, unsalted preferred
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Regular white sugar is fine
  • 1 pinch salt Just a pinch for flavor
Toppings
  • 1 cup chocolate chips You can use dark or milk chocolate
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Almonds or pecans are typical

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until fully melted.
  2. Add the sugar and salt to the melted butter, stirring almost constantly.
  3. Cook the mixture until it becomes fluffy and then starts turning golden brown, reaching the color of a brown paper bag.
  4. Quickly remove from heat and pour it onto a lined baking sheet.
Topping
  1. While the toffee is hot, sprinkle chocolate chips on top and wait for about two minutes until they melt.
  2. Spread the melted chocolate evenly with a spatula.
  3. Sprinkle chopped nuts on top and press down lightly to adhere.
Cooling
  1. Allow the toffee to cool completely before breaking it into jagged pieces.

Notes

Store in an airtight container layered with wax paper to maintain freshness. To freeze, ensure it's completely cool before storing in a freezer bag or airtight container with wax paper between layers.
