  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts Cut into bite-sized pieces.
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For frying.
Sauce Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup bourbon or apple juice Use apple juice for a non-alcoholic version.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Use regular soy sauce for best flavor.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic is ideal.
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder Fresh ginger can be used as an alternative.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar For sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar For flavor balance.
  • 1-2 tablespoons cornstarch Mixed with water to thicken the sauce.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cut the chicken into bite-sized nuggets.
  2. In a bowl, mix bourbon (or apple juice), soy sauce, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, and vinegar to create the sauce.
Cooking
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Season the chicken with salt and pepper and add to the skillet once the oil is hot.
  3. Cook the chicken until golden brown on both sides, avoiding overcrowding the pan.
  4. Pour the sauce over the chicken and let it simmer until the sauce thickens.
  5. Mix cornstarch with a little cold water and stir it into the sauce. Let it simmer for an additional minute until glossy.

Notes

Serve Bourbon Chicken with steamed white rice and crisp broccoli for a complete meal. The dish can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to three days. Leftovers can be frozen for up to a month.
