  • 1 pound Lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup White onion finely chopped
  • 9 slices American cheese
  • 24 –30 Dill pickle slices
  • 2 cups Shredded lettuce
  • 2 tablespoons Melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame seeds
  • Seasoning: 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2/3 cup Mayonnaise
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons Sweet pickle relish
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Yellow mustard
  • Spices: 1/2 tsp paprika 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/4 tsp garlic powder

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • 9x13 Baking Dish
  • Pastry Brush
  • Mixing bowl

Method

  1. Sauce Prep: Whisk all sauce ingredients in a small bowl and refrigerate until assembly.
  2. Beef Mixture: Brown the ground beef and chopped onion in a skillet with salt and pepper; drain all excess grease thoroughly.
  3. Setup: Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  4. Foundation: Slice the rolls in half horizontally and place the bottom halves in the dish.
  5. First Layers: Spread a thin layer of sauce on the buns, then top with the beef mixture, cheese slices, and pickles.
  6. Initial Bake: Bake for 8–10 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  7. Fresh Layers: Remove from the oven, add the shredded lettuce and a generous second layer of sauce.
  8. The Topping: Place the bun tops on, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  9. Final Toast: Bake for another 3–4 minutes until the tops are golden-brown.
  10. Serve: Slice into individual burgers and serve immediately!

Notes

1. Use lean ground beef and drain it thoroughly to prevent the bottom buns from becoming soggy during the bake. 2. Always add the shredded lettuce after the initial cheese-melting bake to maintain its refreshing crunch. 3. Refrigerate the sauce for at least 15 minutes before using to allow the spices to fully hydrate and the flavors to meld.
