Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb flank steak Sliced thin against the grain
  • 4 cups broccoli florets Bright green and not mushy
For the Sauce
  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce For a savory base
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce Optional but recommended for flavor
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch Thickens the sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar For sweetness
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds aroma and flavor
  • 1/2 cup water To adjust sauce consistency

Method

Preparation
  1. Slice the flank steak thinly against the grain and marinate in soy sauce and a pinch of sugar for 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare broccoli by cutting it into florets, ensuring the pieces are large and bright green.
Cooking
  1. Heat a skillet or wok over high heat. Add oil once hot.
  2. Sear the beef in batches, ensuring not to crowd the pan to avoid steaming.
  3. Remove the beef from the pan and add broccoli with a splash of water. Steam broccoli for about 2 minutes.
  4. Return the beef to the pan, pour over the prepared sauce, and toss until everything is shiny and glazed.

Notes

For best results, ensure the pan is very hot to prevent the beef from becoming rubbery. Serve the dish over rice or stuffed in a toasted bun for variety.
