Ingredients
  

For the caramelized bottom
  • 1/2 cup butter Melted, for the base
  • 1 cup brown sugar Packed, for caramelization
  • 2 medium bananas Sliced, to layer on top
  • 1 tsp cinnamon Optional, for added flavor
For the cake batter
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Room temperature, for the batter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a pan, melt the butter and brown sugar over low heat until combined.
  3. Add the cinnamon to the butter and brown sugar mixture if desired.
  4. Arrange the banana slices in the melted mixture.
Batter and Baking
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla extract.
  3. Combine the wet ingredients with the dry ingredients until just mixed.
  4. Pour the batter over the banana layer in the pan.
  5. Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
  6. Allow the cake to cool for a few minutes before flipping it onto a serving plate.

Notes

Use parchment paper for easier removal from the pan. For a twist, add chopped pecans or serve with ice cream on top.
